Iui Pregnancy

IUI pregnancy, the short name for intrauterine insemination pregnancy, is a technique that allows a sperm to be artificially placed in a woman's uterus using a catheter.

This type of technique is best resorted to by individuals with unexplained infertility problems. This is also good for those who have fertility problems and have tried all other infertility treatments available for them but were dismayed by results.

More on IUI pregnancy

Actually, the IUI pregnancy concept is the updated name for the term we know then as artificial insemination. You may ask why a change in the term was necessary. It is because of the fact that in

this technique, insemination may occur in four various locations namely the vagina (intravaginal), uterus, cervix (intracervical) and fallopian tubes (intratubal). It is true that these four methods are artificial insemination per se but for insemination artificially made via the uterus, intrauterine is a more accurate term to use.

Who is eligible for IUI pregnancy?

We have to ask this question because like in any other treatments, there may be people who are not allowed to undergo the process. Basically, it is given to couples who have been trying to conceive for more than a year but were not blessed with a child during that time frame. This is also best for those who are facing infertility issues like low sperm count and other sexual-related concerns such as premature ejaculation.

Generally, IUI pregnancy is recommended for women whose uterus has been hostile to sperm. It is also best for partners who are having problems with ejaculation issues resulting from psychological problems or vaginal muscle contractions. It is also suggested for couples who have been facing health issues and injuries that result to incapacity to have sexual intercourse.

Requirements to undergo IUI pregnancy

An IUI may not be given to all individuals despite meeting the situations mentioned above. In fact, a male should be tested for his sperm's count, mobility and morphology. If the results of the test find out that the sperm is not healthy or is misshaped, then artificial insemination will not work at all. However, should the husband and wife agree to get a sperm from a donor, then the IUI process may be continued.

Whilst women desiring to have her own child may undergo IUI, it is still imperative that she will undergo testing before she can say yes to the process. She has to have normal ovulation cycle as well as normal uterine activity and must also have open fallopian tubes. This is required since fertilisation and conception after an IUI should take place as normal. In cases when a woman may not pass the tests as indicated herein, she may still be allowed to undergo the procedure but only after she had taken fertility drugs. Women with endometriosis may also be eligible for the procedure.

However, some women may not have this as recourse to pregnancy if they already have damaged fallopian tubes, are over the age of 40 and have poor egg quality. This is not for menopausal women as well. In all these instances, the chances of conceiving are low.

IUI Pregnancy symptoms

As a candidate for IUI, you should also expect signs of pregnancy after you have undergone the procedure. The symptoms are no different when compared to signs of pregnancy experienced with normal conception. Here is a list:

1. Delay in menstruation. This is perhaps the first sign a woman experiences when she is pregnant. This even urges her to take the pregnancy test. It does happen after undergoing the IUI as well. Occasional spotting, like in most pregnancies, may also occur together with a delay in menstruation.

2. Implantation bleeding. This is a normal incident in a successful IUI procedure. This will usually take place a week or two after the insemination was finished. This is often confused with spotting that occurs before menstruation. Light cramping may also come with implantation bleeding.

3. Fatigue. Exhaustion is a common concern of pregnant women and even those who undergo the IUI procedure may experience this occurrence as well. This can be coupled with stress thus resulting to severe fatigue in most cases.

4. Other symptoms. Other IUI pregnancy symptoms include nausea and vomiting, tender breasts and food cravings.

IUI pregnancy, overall, should be taken as an option for couples who want to have children. The process may take courage for some especially those who have fertility issues. As stated herein, some men may not be eligible to undergo IUI except if they are willing to ask sperm from other men. Women, on the other hand, should prepare themselves with the process and IUI cost that may come at around $1000 to $1700. When all these issues have been addressed, it is high time to consult an expert for the procedure.
